For this month's Customer Highlight of the Month, we caught up with Claudia, Owner at Village Bed & Breakfast, about her experience with using innRoad and being in the hotel business.
- What made you get into the hotel business?
I always had others live with my family. When it was getting time to think about college tuition for my eldest daughter, we realized in addition to our jobs, we needed another source of revenue. Someone I played softball with had a B & B and suggested that be something I might do given I had a Victorian home that was located in a village with restaurants and shops and a block from the train to Boston. She came over and told me what to do and said she would give me her overflow for a fee so I wouldn’t have to do any marketing. Now of course innRoad's reservation system on my website makes all of that so much easier.
- What’s your favorite feature to use in our innRoad software?
I like the tape chart that allows me to see all the reservations at my finger tips but the thing that allows me not to tear my hair out are the reports you can run around tax time. These reports are a game-changer over what I had to do previously going through a paper calendar and manually adding up what each guest paid in each room over the calendar year. But for me, the technical support makes it all possible. I am not very tech savvy so the help and patience innRoad provides is phenomenal.
- How long have you been working at Village Bed and Breakfast and how long have you been using innRoad?
I have owned (sole proprietor) the B & B since 1998. It started with one room, eventually got to 4 rooms but my city implemented a rule limiting B and B’s to 3 rooms. I found out about innRoad and started using them in 2018.
- Favorite part about being in the hospitality industry?
I love having my own business and being able to support my house, but of course meeting people all over the world without having to leave home is an exceptional feature of hosting. The people you get to know who come back repeatedly make this business so satisfying and you build relationships. But you also can’t mind laundry!! There is a lot of cleaning that goes with the schmoozing over breakfast!
